Your data stays on your Mac.

Agate is a Mac app made by Rowan Christmas. It has no server of its own: there is no Agate account, and we do not receive, store or see your recordings, transcripts, mail, todos or documents. This page says what the app keeps, where, and the cases in which something leaves your Mac because you asked it to.

What Agate stores, and where

• The store. Todos, people, meetings, transcripts, summaries, notes and documents live in a SQLite database in your user Library (an App Group container for the App Store and TestFlight builds, ~/Library/Application Support/Agate otherwise).
• Recordings. Meeting audio is kept only if you turn that on in Settings, in a folder beside the store.
• Sign-ins. Tokens for the services you connect are encrypted in a file beside the store; the key is in your macOS keychain.

You can export your data or clear the database from the app, and deleting the app’s folders removes everything.

What runs on your Mac

Transcription, telling speakers apart, finding todos and the default summaries run on-device, using Apple’s speech and Foundation Models frameworks and Core ML models. The speaker-separation models are downloaded once from their public host; nothing about you is sent to fetch them.

When something leaves your Mac

• Services you connect. When you sign in to Google, GitHub or an MCP server, Agate talks to that service directly from your Mac with your sign-in, to read what you asked it to read. Google mail and Drive are read-only. The one thing Agate writes to Google is a calendar event for a todo you attached to a calendar.
• Cloud models you choose. If you pick Claude (through the Claude API or Claude Code) for a draft or a chat, the text of that request — including the excerpts of your data needed to answer it — is sent to Anthropic under your own account and their terms. If you pick Apple’s on-device model or a model server on your own machine, it is not.
• Tools you make or add. A connection you add runs with the access you give it. Local tool servers run inside a Linux virtual machine on your Mac.

Google user data

Agate’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is used only to show you your own mail, calendar and files inside the app and to find your todos in them; it is stored only on your Mac, is never transferred to us or to anyone else, and is never used for advertising. It is sent to a cloud model only when you have chosen one, for the request you made.

What we collect

Nothing. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it does not phone home. If you use a TestFlight or App Store build, Apple may share crash reports and usage figures with us if you have agreed to that in macOS; they do not contain your content.

This website is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs. It sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties.

Children

Agate is a work tool and is not directed at children under 13.
